"The Summer Season is Upon Us!"

Dear Friends,

As I write this, the Fourth of July is days away. Where did the first six months of 2019 go?! The summer season is upon us and after all the rain, I’m ready for some nice sunny, warm days! As I have said in the past, unlike a lot of other churches, the summer season at First Presbyterian in Hawley is definitely NOT a slow time of year. Summer here means a number of things:

  1. Our “Summer” People have returned. We are fortunate to have a number of people and families who come year after year and are active participants in the life of our church family. It is great to welcome them back and to welcome new visitors vacationing in the area.

  2. Vacation Bible School is coming: To Mars and Beyond, July 29 – August 2. I’m always amazed at the number of volunteers involved and the enthusiasm VBS generates here. So many churches have had curtail their VBS programs or cut them altogether. If you have never been a part of Vacation Bible School here, I invite you to get involved somehow or at least stop by during the week it happens and see 60 children and twenty-plus leaders and helpers experiencing the joy and love of Jesus!

  3. Re-Creation returns on Sunday, August 11th. This wonderful group of young people always delights and inspires us as they lead worship full of energy and joy.

  4. Summer also means our Annual Promised Land Service and Picnic on Sunday, August 25th.This is always one of the highlights of the summer. The setting is spectacular as we enjoy God’s beautiful creation (and some great food!).

In addition to all that, First Presbyterian Church is sending two young people, Ashlee and Ivan, to the National Presbyterian Youth Triennium at Purdue University in July. This is an awesome event where 6,000 high school young people from across the country gather for a week of worship, study, fellowship, and service. Over the years, with your support, FPC has been able to send seven of our young people to Triennium. Thank you!

The Spirit is alive and well, even in the Summer at First Presbyterian Church! Come, and be a part of it.

Grace, Peace, and Love,

Pastor Bill
