"Preparing to Say 'Good-Bye'"

Dear Friends,

Where do I begin. As I write this on Monday, I’m basking in the glow of yesterday. First, the amazing presentation of Vivaldi’s Gloria by our Chancel Choir, guest singers and strings. As someone said: “I don’t think you could ever experience a finer performance of the Gloria.” I would have to agree; it was simply magnificent! Thanks to all involved, especially our talented Music Director, Matthew Rupcich, who put it all together.

Then later that same afternoon, my Retirement Celebration. As the Four Seasons once sang: “Oh what a night!” Everything was perfect: the setting, the gathering time with entertainment by the swing band, “Moonlight Over the Poconos” directed by our own Hank Grilk, the delicious dinner, the table settings and decorations, the speakers, the performance by the Chancel Choir, Brad Kiesendahl as a great emcee, and, most of all, the spirit of joy and love that filled the room. Wow! My heartfelt thanks to those who made this such a special night, especially Kimberley Protzman who coordinated the whole event so wonderfully. I am overwhelmed at the generous gift that was presented to me. Thank you, all!

As we prepare to say “Good-Bye” in the next three weeks, with my last Sunday on October 20th, I want to again say what a privilege and a pleasure it was for me to be your Pastor and partner in ministry for the last 29 years. We accomplished so much together with God’s grace. I retire with such a sense of gratitude in my heart for all the experiences in my 38 years of ministry, especially the years with you here in Hawley.

So as the Irish Blessing puts it:

“Until we meet again, may God hold you [and me!] in the palm of His hand.”

Grace, Peace, and Love,

Pastor Bill
