"Teach the Children"

Dear Friends,

As I write this, I’m still basking in the glow of another successful Spring for Kidz Carnival a few days ago. About three hundred people showed up and, judging from the feedback, they all had a great time! Financially it was a success as well. While I am of course very pleased about this success, what impressed me the most was the hard work of so many of you who came together to make this event happen in the first place! A special “Thank You!” to Oressa Campbell Miller for her wonderful leadership once again! By my count, 43 members and friends of our church were physically involved, and even more supported Spring for Kidz with financial gifts. Talking with Chris Caruso, we both felt that the pulling together by such a large group of dedicated people was a success in and of itself. It certainly is a sign of a healthy church.

This coming Sunday, June 3rd, we will celebrate another way we reach to “tell the story of Jesus and his love,” with our annual recognition of our Sunday School program. We will honor the teachers and helpers who provide such a loving environment for our children every Sunday and we will celebrate the children who make our church come alive with their energy and excitement.

Both the Spring for Kidz and our Sunday School, as well as our upcoming Vacation Bible School: Rolling River Rampage in July, are ways in which we as a faith community pass that faith on to the next generation. Deuteronomy 4:9 says: “But take care and watch yourselves closely, so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children’s children.” We have a responsibility and the privilege of teaching the Good News of Jesus to our children. It is something we take very seriously at First Presbyterian Church. I am so grateful to all of you who teach in our Sunday School, who work at events like Spring for Kidz and Vacation Bible School, and all who support our efforts with your prayers and your gifts. As a community of faith in Jesus Christ, we show the world that there are places where love prevails, and all are welcomed in the name of our Lord!

Grace, Peace, and Love,

Pastor Bill
